We evacuated to our friends' home, Phil and Jenny, out at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina -- about 200 miles west of the Outer Banks. Their two girls, Livie and Alexa and are Adayla and Tally's ages, were great hosts and we all had a fun time hanging out and catching up.
All of the base's aircraft (F-15Es and KC-135s) had been evacuated down to Florida to avoid Hurricane Earl. As it ended up, Earl turned north basically when the forecasters had predicted Goldsboro didn't get any rain, while our beach house in Duck got a couple of inches of rain, but no damage from the storm.
Phil and fellow pilot-friend Dave took Tim to the new KC-135 flight simulator there on base Friday morning and Tim couldn't believe how much has changed in the jet... and how much he remembered. It's been over four years since Tim last flew, perhaps he will return to flying as early as next summer.
Four of the five families decided to go back to the beach house to finish out our family beach week. We arrived back in Duck to clear, sunny skies at 4:30 pm yesterday. Off to catch up with Morgan and the girls where they were first to the pool this morning...
The only concern left is how to watch this evening's big college football games... Washington at BYU and TCU at Oregon State. Fun times (even "funner" if we can actually watch the games!).
Life's a beach!
