The Olympic Torch

Grandma, Odessa and we were able to go catch a glimpse of the Olympic torch as it ran by. We could actually see it from our apartment, but a friend invited us to go see it run close by her house. (It worked out perfectly, we showed up with about 10 minutes to spare and join in the with crowd chanting...."Zhongguo, Jia You!!" It is their way of cheering, literally meaning, China, Add Gas! There were thousands of people out and it was quite exciting to watch and cheer with our friends!

Each runner ran maybe 100 meters or so. This bus came to drop off each runner at their spot about 5 minutes ahead of the actually torch.

This guy was the runner right in front of us, while he waited for the torch he riled up the crowd!

Passing the flame!

The end of the procession, you can see the thousands lined along the street!

We took pictures of the Chinese! Because of all the protests in other countries as the torch came by and then the big earthquake, China has seen a splurge in national pride.....these girls were showing theirs!

What a neat experience! You are so lucky to be a part of that! I can't believe how grown up Odessa is. You guys look great and that's awesome you have family visiting! We really want to come out and visit before you come back to the states. It will probably be a crazy summer with the Olympics there and that's great you guys can be so close to it.
