Today I took Adayla to piano lessons which is in the 3rd floor of an old building about a mile away from our house. The only other business sharing occupancy on this floor is a huge internet cafe. When we take the elevator, there are sometimes seemingly interesting characters riding with us. So I turned around in the elevator and for the first time since arriving in China, I saw a person who I had seen before somewhere else. We wander the streets around our place and regularly see the same vendors, but there isn't anything distinguishing about them enough for me to remember their face if I saw them in another setting. (It would be like seeing one the regular grocery clerks at the mall and know that you have seen them from somewhere.)
The funny thing is this guy had already made our blog! Yes, I saw, as Tim quoted a few entries ago, "The big guy in the video was our cook, and he came over to tell the on-lookers that they needed to buy his food in order to stay around there and look at us! Funny guy."
For sure a funny and friendly guy who is apparently hard to forget (because of the shaved head and much bigger than the typical skinny guys of China), I recognized him immediately and he definitely remembered us. I guess the girl he was with was also there that day as she said something about the two other girls....I still don't remember seeing her there and I probably could pass by her again and not know it.
There is a first time for everything here in Shanghai!
