Since we were going to be out of town for Thanksgiving and Josie was going to be hanging out and working in Shanghai, we decided we would have Thanksgiving the prior Sunday. Josie and I slaved, but thankfully the "turkey" was taken care of. We bought a pre-cooked turkey leg at the Carrefour (the French Walmart) and all we had to do was heat it up.
For those of you that know my cooking ability previously, I would have much rather bought frozen, premade, or used some sort of packed. But you can't exactly get that in China, so it is all from scratch! We made our own rolls, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, salad, hummus (made the sesame paste and all) for the veggies, and most importantly our/my first apple pie! It was way too much work, but it was yummy!

Tim carved the turkey and to our surprise it looked like ham on the inside. And then after tasting it, we decided it was ham! Whatever, it tasted good. I checked the packaging again and it said it was a roasted turkey leg. You can buy a whole turkey here for between $70 and $100. I like turkey for about 2 days and then I am good for another year, so we went with the "turkey leg."
In the middle of dinner, we heard fireworks, and we were happy to have some of our Chinese neighbors celebrating with us! Tim ran out the door to take a pic.

Finally, we had the apple pie! It was tasty to say the least. I find many recipes these days from allrecipes.com because I like the reader reviews and the comments people add. I found a recipe for a crust and a recipe for the apple pie and I have to say it is one of the best apple pies I have eaten (I may have the baker's bias...)
Doesn't that make your mouth want a piece of fresh apple pie!

mmm...Morgan, that pie looks delicious! So, you just bought one turkey leg and turned out to be ham? I'm with you on turkey. I didn't even eat any. I just like the side dishes! I'm glad you had a good thanksgiving. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Adayla!!
I'm seriously impressed by your homemade Thanksgiving dinner. It looks so yummy! I can't believe Adayla is 3 already!! How time flies... she was brand new in her carrier when we came to Altus. Memories...oh the nostalgia. We sure miss you!
You can take over being the cook at the get togethers. Your babies are beautiful. Happy Birthday Adayla. I wish I could get my picture taken with the princesses. I can't wait to get to China.
