The vacation is over...

We left Phuket on January 30th, 15 days into our trip and another 22 days to go. But we realized the relaxing vacation was over, it was time to transition to a higher pace of sightseeing for the next three weeks. At least we were now well-rested, well-relaxed, and well-fed during our stay in Phuket... emphasis on well-fed!

Thai food is just flat out good! They just get it... flavorful, fresh, healthy, good. And you can get all this good food for cheap in Phuket.

Here was part of the typical evening routine for us... walking and checking menus of restaurants to decide where we wanted to eat.

Street after street of restaurants, and they're all good...

Fried rice in a pineapple, cashew shrimp, and green curry chicken were just some of our favorites!
One thing we hope our girls don't lose when we move back to the States is the variety of food they like to eat. They love their vegetables... a meal isn't a meal without them. And they eat everything. For example, this evening we asked Adayla what she wanted to eat and she was in the mood for fish. So I took her to pick out her fish and she selected a pretty big one. I asked her if she was that hungry...

...turns out she was! We each had a bite to taste it (it was very good), but it was Adayla who ate this fish, flipped it over to eat the other side and everything!

Since Phuket is popular with European travelers, there are plenty of Italian restaurants, and also several German and Greek restaurants as well as Indian and Arabic restaurants, and even American BBQ and Mexican! Basically, if you want it you can get it here. Our little paradise...

We even were invited to eat dinner with some Thai families. We walked by these folks and said hello, and they started talking with the girls. Next thing we know we're sitting down with them and they're giving us food and drinks...

What would we do without kids? They didn't speak English, we didn't speak Thai (I tried Chinese and German just in case), but still without being able to say one word to each other we all had a great evening together...
Eat More Fruit

One of our pleasures was eating such good, sweet fruit. Whether it was a fruit platter or fresh fruit watermelon slushy brought to our lounge chairs on the beach...

A pineapple slushy at dinner...
Or a fresh-fruit strawberry shake on the go...
Drinking, and then eating a coconut everyday...
Or even eating our fruit as in this Thai dessert... yellow mango with sweet sticky rice and sweet milk, it was just all so good. And that's probably the big reason why we like Patong Beach over all the other beaches on Phuket... it just has everything
And when we didn't want healthy fruit desserts and wanted "real" ice cream, there was Swensen's. We were not strangers here!
So one last look from my point-of-view from "our" spot for the last week and a half...
And it was off to pack our bags and say goodbye to our little paradise that we call Phuket.

Next stop... Phnom Penh, Cambodia!

I just found your blog from . . . I can't remember! Anyway, I've loved reading it. I spent a couple of weeks in Phuket B.K. (Before Kids) and had a great time.

I'm homeschooling my eldest daughter (she's 13) and we're studying China right now. I'll be sure to let her read your blog. She'll love it.

Fabulous journal of an amazing adventure. You are doing such unbelievable things with those darling little girls in tow! You are very brave to even attempt it. Kudos to you! I'm glad you have such great technology to record and chronicle the experiences. And thanks for sharing with the rest of us!
