The Marine Corps Ball is held every year to celebrate the "birthday" of the Marine Corps... 233 years this year.This event is THE event for Marines every year. There are Marines posted here in Shanghai for guard duty at the Consulate and every year they organize a HUGE event to celebrate. It is quite popular with American businessmen as a way to show their patriotism and probably as a way to network with various people at the Consulate.
It's also a chance for us to dress up and relive our high school prom days.
So here's our "official" picture from the Ball...
A picture with fellow Scholar, Enrique, who is studying out in Hangzhou. This is our best attempt at a Chinese-style picture with the fingers...

The girls were really funny while Mommy and her friend wer getting all dressed up for the Ball. They thought Mommy and Enrique's wife, Olga, looked like princesses and so they put their princess gear on as well...

You two look very nice! I'm glad that you were able to get dressed up! I have a question for you - did you wear your mess dress for your wedding pictures, etc.? Jim originally didn't want to, then he decided it was better than spending the $ for a tux rental. Yeah, we're cheap like that!
Yes he did wear his mess dress for their reception. Morgan, you look beautiful. What a great way to celebrate. Tim, you look very handsome. There years are flying by.

i can see tally now... swinging that necklace at her boy cousins and chucking dress up high heels at the same time. she is going to give them a run for her money and i can't wait to see it. she is so dang mischievous, but so cute!
