Can we say Nosy??

There is no secret about most Chinese, I have written many times before about the help I get everytime I go outside how to take care of my kids. They are wearing too little clothes, too many, it is too hot to have them out, too cold...blah blah blah. They will open their mouth nearly everytime, but a few will just stare and stare. This was one of those instances, until I think he didn't know what to say and went one step too far.....

We were at the Safari Park this past weekend (more updates about feeding tigers a LIVE chicken and giving Giraffes food from the car at a later date) and it was HOT outside. We found some shade, ice cream, and a place to sit down while I fed Ryann. I have this cute nursing cover I wear around my neck to be conservative. I covered her head and left her feet and legs hanging out to keep her as cool as possible.

I like to think that it was very obvious as to what was occuring underneath the blanket. So this family comes walking by with their one small child and grandma and grandpa are along as well. They stop to observe the foreigners and notice me with a baby underneath the blanket. The grandpa comes up and just stares about a foot away from me and then SHOCKS me by curiously grabbing the end of the cover and lifts it to see what is going on underneath! I think he was just as shocked when I slapped the blanket down with my hand! After they left, we laughed and laughed!

So your job this week, next time you see a covered lady nursing her child, stare for a minute and then just lift up the cover to see what the baby is really doing.....

That's like a little kid lifting up a mannequin's dress in a department store.

Wait - do the Chinese not breastfeed? Had he NEVER seen it happening before? I'm so confused.

I really can't comprehend how they are so nosy and invasive like that! Even if we were curious what someone is doing here in the USA, we would never think we had the right to walk up and touch someone else, much less, move a nursing cover out of the way to see what's going on! (even if we didn't know it was a nursing cover) That's crazy! I hope he was shocked and embarrassed! haha!

I believe it! That makes me laugh....maybe he thought she was taking a nap or looking for a toy? Haha probably not, just wanted a sneak peak at your chest.(just kidding)

Yes, Chinese are into breastfeeding....but there is no reason to cover up as you are feeding your kid. But still, what did he think I was doing??!!! I think they figure it is a natural thing, like why kids running around showing their front and back bums. Also Tim is amazed when he uses the men's restroom sometimes there will be a man squatting with the door open, smoking a cig, and reading a magazine...dude shut the door! Over a billion people and all of the sudden privacy isn't such an issue.

Thanks Teresa for helping me spell check, though I did look it up and nosey is a variation ;)

I don't think I would be up for someone looking at me breastfeed. I'm surprised the man would come up and do that. I would have slapped him away too. Can't wait to see the pictures of the safari trip!

Morgan,

This is soooo funny. I can totally understand. People were so nosy to us as well- and especially the old nainai's and yeye's. It's like they have a get out of jail free pass or something to do things like that and stare and "peek".
